DID YOU KNOW THAT WE ALSO HAVE AN EARLY YEARS TEAM?
From 2023 the Early Years Foundation Stage is included in the National Plan for Music. This requires schools to have a five-year music plan for their Reception Class. All Early Years providers are required to deliver an Educational Programme in Expressive Arts and Design as part of the EYFS.
CMST recognises the importance of providing high quality musical opportunities for the under 5s. This can be in the form of introducing new musical repertoire, giving the children opportunities to hear live music, and most importantly creating an environment for your children that encourages musical play and allows space for the child-led music making.
The CMST Early Years team can support teachers in their termly and yearly music planning. They can work with staff to help to improve their understanding of what Early Years Music looks and sounds like. They can work with staff to help establish music as part of the culture of an Early Years class as well as providing ideas of how to use songs, musical games and activities. Through training they can help staff to see that the music is already happening in their classroom and to understand how they can nurture this innate musicality.
CMST Early Years musicians have taken part in many research projects where they have looked at links between an increased use of music and other factors, such as speech and language, well-being, fine motor skills. Music can be a wonderful tool in the first year of school to help support children in many of these areas, at a time of rapid development and change.
