Our Mission in Music
By enabling students of all generations, backgrounds and communities to enjoy a life including music making and participation, we seek to grow and support the health of a musical community for now and for the future.
What instruments do we teach
We teach the widest range of instruments from any music service in Cornwall! If there is an instrument you would like to learn then we have a teacher to find help you on your musical journey!
What else do we offer?
Not only do our students get lessons on their instrument they also gain opportunities to perform and develop their musicianship along the way. All of our students gain access to our amazing range of online lessons and competitions through our learning platform MusicEL. Read some more about MusicEL here:

grade exams
If a student wishes to they can also enter into grade exams, with help from their teacher along the way. You can achieve grades from a range of exam boards including Rockschool, ABRSM, Trinity and Music Medals for those just starting out! Inclusive Music
Music is a medium which can be shared by all and allows everyone to express their emotions in a creative and positive way. We work closely along with our inclusivity lead, Steve Hawker, to spread music throughout the county.
Classroom support
We also offer classroom support providing CPD, whole class instrumental lessons, music lessons from qualified teachers and school ensembles. If you would like to find out more details about the services we can provide your school follow the link below.
It all started when…
In 2015 Cornwall Council chose to dissolve the county ran music service, Music Cornwall. In reaction to this a large group of music teachers banded together, under the leadership of Gareth Churcher, to create CMST and continue the tradition of music teaching throughout Cornwall. Since that point we have been providing music lessons, ensembles, classroom support and music therapy throughout the county. CMST is the largest charitable organisation delivering music lessons in Cornwall and pride ourselves in providing the best service for young musicians available!
