We believe that all children have an innate musicality. From birth they explore pulse, rhythm, pitch and timbre and use sound as a way to communicate. These are the seeds of musical growth.
About Us
Cornwall Music Service Trust launched its Early Years Music Education Service in 2017. The first project was funded by Take Art Soundwaves Extra and took place in St. Austell. Since then we have been going from strength to strength providing a service in more schools and Early Years settings year on year.
Nurturing our young musicians
Through workshops and CPD sessions, our Early Years Practitioners work with parents to encourage them to sing and use musical play with their children. We invite parents to some of our sessions at their child’s Early Years Setting to see how we engage with their children through music. Music can forge an important bond between caregiver and child from birth. Singing, rhyming, rocking and chanting are some of the many ways in which parents and care givers can engage with their child, encouraging communication, giving comfort and inspiring confidence.
Based on fact
We have worked extensively to create a scheme of work which enables children to have fun whilst still showing development through speech, language and learning skills. But don’t take it from us, read the case studies from parents and teachers showing the effect of music on young lives.
The Dalla project
This story and composition was inspired and co-created by 2 - 4 year olds in 3 Cornish Early Years settings. It is the culmination of The Dalla Project delivered by CMST's Early Years Team and supported by Arts Council England. The piece is a collection of spontaneous musical vocalisations by the children which were captured during the project. It is designed to be narrated by Early Years Practitioners, Teachers and Parents and shared with their children. The song and video which was created can be seen below.
