IMS Prussia Cove are celebrating their 50th anniversary this September and as part of the celebrations they are presenting an afternoon of string orchestra playing which is open to all string players in Cornwall.
Shostakovich’s 8th Quartet has always fascinated me – it’s a piece with little hope and plenty of musical discord yet caries enormous beauty and touches us deeply. On Saturday 24th September a quartet from IMS (of which I am privileged to be a part and led by Lesley Hatfield who is an enormously inspiring musician and wonderful violinist) will be leading a rehearsal session on this piece. Please come and join us! We want to make a large string orchestra with players from all over the county to explore and rehearse this piece together, ending with a run through for our own enjoyment.
