Concert of Operatic Arias this Saturday, Mylor Bridge.

On Saturday 7th September, Jacqueline Kershaw will be performing with the rising young London operatic tenor, James Bowers at All Saints Church, Bells Hill, Mylor Bridge. James will be performing some of the best-loved operatic arias as well as two exciting works in which he will be accompanied by Jacqueline on the horn and Clive Ellison on the piano. The first is the rarely heard Auf dem Strom by Franz Schubert and the second is Britten’s Serenade for Tenor, Horn and Strings. This is a hugely demanding work for both the tenor soloist and the horn player requiring the utmost technical skill. For any aspiring tenor, a first performance of this work is a rite of passage. Not only will James and Jacqueline be well up to this challenge, but Clive, on the piano, will coalesce an entire string orchestra under his more than capable hands.
Tickets for this concert (price £10 for adults or £5 for accompanied children under 19 years of age) will be available from August 9 and may be purchased from Mylor Stores or the Flushing Village Shop. Alternatively, they are available now online from the website carrickconcerts.org or by telephoning 01326 374237 direct. For more details please see the event page on Facebook.

Congratulations go to Ezme Pedersen who has been awarded the CMST Pupil of The Month Award for April 2019. Ezme has made an excellent start to learning the Piano and has certainly embraced the practice routine as you will read below.

When asking Mr Bilham why he felt Ezme should win the award he said “Ezme has been learning for 18 months and during that time she has completed a staggering 6,000 minutes of practice! She really enjoys her music, and works so hard in her lessons and at home.”

Mr Bilham continued “Winning this award would recognises the commitment and perseverance that Ezme has shown since starting her piano lessons, and I can think of no more deserving pupil.”

Gareth Churcher, Head of Service for CMST, commented “The amount of time Ezme has devoted to learning her instrument is exemplary and signifies the absolute importance of a consistent practice routine, of which I am sure Ezme will reap the rewards. In addition, it teaches the life lessons and skills of perseverance and commitment which Ezme will transfer to other areas of her education without even knowing it.”

Congratulations to Sophie Weller: the CMST pupil of the month for May 2019.

Sophie began learning the violin at Mount Charles Primary School when she was in year 3. Now a year 11 student at Penrice Academy, she has recently gained a merit pass for her Grade 7 ABRSM examination.

Her teacher Karen Frost says “ Sophie has always shown dedication and commitment to her violin playing, has supported her school orchestra, the St. Austell Chamber Orchestra which she now leads and is a valued member of Cornwall Youth Orchestra”.

Sophie will be continuing her musical studies next year at Truro College and we wish her well for the future.
