Voted one of the top three flamenco guitarists in the world, Juan Martin has toured internationally, playing concerts from Shanghai and Melbourne to New York. Critics have compared his compositional talent to that of Albéniz, Turina and Tárrega. The guitarist and composer played for Picasso’s 90th birthday celebrations, and his original book on learning the guitar is referred to as ‘The Bible’ of flamenco guitar.
Join us for an evening of exquisite and highly sophisticated contemporary music at St Endellion.

On Saturday November 12th, Penzance Orchestral Society will take its audience on a whistle-stop tour of Scandinavia through the power of music.
The concert, which starts at 3pm, features the welcome return of Preston Yeo as solo violin to perform Sibelius’ Violin Concerto - the only concerto he ever wrote. Preston has recently taken up a post as Professor in the Royal Academy of Music’s Junior Department.
The family-friendly matinee starts off with Beethoven’s Leonore Overture No 3: Beethoven took not one but four attempts at writing an overture for his opera Fidelio. Number 3 was deemed too strong for the opera’s opening scenes but is a beautiful piece of music in its own right which summarises the opera, which tells the story of how Leonore, in guise of a prison guard named Fidelio, rescues her husband Florestan from death in a political prison.
The programme concludes with Danish composer Carl Nielsen’s magnificent Symphony Number 1 - which was written when the composer was 27.
Penzance Orchestral Society would be delighted if you would join them for their musical adventure on Saturday November 12th at 3pm in St John’s Hall, Penzance. Tickets are now available online from the Minack Theatre box office priced £10 and may also be purchased on the door. Free admission for children under 16 accompanied by an adult.
