Congratulations go to Sam Coles who has been awarded the CMST Pupil of The Month Award for June, 2018.
Sam had his first musical experience through the First Access programme and this inspired him to go along to his local brass band. A nice example of how an initial seed of musical inspiration in school can benefit the learner and the community.
His teacher, Anna Minear, was delivering at the Royal Cornwall Show this year on behalf of Cornwall Music Service Trust and had this to say: “This year I attended the Royal Cornwall Show on behalf of CMST. I was delighted when on the Friday, Sam & his family came along to see me. I have only been teaching Sam since Easter but I learnt that after the First Access sessions he had from me 2 years ago he went along to Camelford Band to get an instrument & has with the help of his grandad developed his skills to almost grade 3 standard.”
Anna continued by saying: “Sam attended 4 out of the 6 sessions I provided at RCS as he asked if he was allowed to be my assistant! Sam really has shown dedication not only to his playing but to flying the CMST flag for us! ”
Gareth Churcher, Head of Service for CMST, commented “This is a really lovely example to see, where a child has been inspired by the First Access delivery model and taken the initiative to follow this through with a local community group. What’s particularly lovely to hear is how this has brought generations of the family more together through the joy of music making”.
