The Roseland Academy Christmas Single 2020 "Don't Keep Your Distance From Christmas"

The Roseland Academy Christmas Single 2020 "Don't Keep Your Distance From Christmas"

Following an extraordinarily challenging year, staff and students from The Roseland Academy are celebrating Christmas with the production of a brand new Christmas single and video in aid of local charity, St Petroc’s Winter Appeal.

It's an original song written by their orchestra director Matt Douglas, recorded and performed by Roseland students who have played or sung every single instrument and vocal that you hear on the track, which has been created from scratch this term.

Due to the current pandemic The Roseland Academy have been unable to run their usual school orchestras, bands and choirs this term, so they wanted to give their students a different kind of musical opportunity... they have certainly risen to the challenge and all the parts have been recorded individually by students, either at home or at school, before being put together to create the final track.

The Roseland Academy have chosen to support St Petroc's Winter Appeal who are working to end homelessness in Cornwall, and we invite all those who enjoy our Christmas recording to make a donation via the St Petroc’s website on the donations link below.

Jingle Bells featuring TSisters

Jingle Bells featuring TSisters

We would like to share this festive collaboration between staff and students of Cornwall Music Service Trust, Truro School and members of the Cornwall International Male Choral Festival.

In addition, many community musicians have virtually come together to bring you a little festive cheer!

A lovely message to receive!

A lovely message to receive!

A Year 6 class from a school in North Cornwall has been working with one of our Curriculum Music team, Georgina Bridle, this term. The class enjoyed the sessions so much they wrote a little note to say '“thank you”!

Dear Mrs Bridle,

We wanted to let you know how much we have enjoyed working with you this term. We have really enjoyed composing an original piece of music

When we first started, we practised different rhythms, clapping and tapping on our thighs. Then we got into small groups and made up our own beats and rhythms. Then we decided which notes would go with which beat.

After that, you took them away and combined everyone’s ideas into one piece of music and played it to us on the piano. In small groups we then practised the piece on tuned percussion until we could all play together in time. It has been really enjoyable and we’ve learnt a lot about composing music and then playing a shared piece together, which contains all our ideas. We would really like to do this again.

Yours Faithfully,

Year 6

A little bit of calm from Cornwall Youth Chamber Choir

A little bit of calm from Cornwall Youth Chamber Choir

Cornwall Youth Chamber Choir couldn’t meet for face to face rehearsals during the Summer Term but Lockdown didn’t stop us singing as rehearsals shifted to Zoom!

Here is a recording of one of the songs the choir worked on during that time.

Huge thanks to Choir member Bryher and her Father for putting this beautiful recording together for us. Normal rehearsals will be resuming in September. Watch this space for more information!

Cornwall Music Service Trust - Virtual Summer School performance

Cornwall Music Service Trust - Virtual Summer School performance

This project was a part of the first-ever CMST Virtual Summer School where participants engaged with 3 days of inspiring musical activities. One of the outcomes was this virtual orchestra performance of David Frost’s wonderful arrangement of ‘Thank You For The Music’, directed by Sara Munns.

Should you wish to make any donations, this can be done via this link.

Recorders Rule - Virtual Summer Concert!

Recorders Rule - Virtual Summer Concert!

Today should have seen a major recorder workshop and concert take place. Unfortunately, this was not possible this year so Sarah Whomersley has put together this ‘virtual’ concert for you to enjoy instead!

Cornwall Youth Brass Ensemble - remote recording of 'Tube Ride'!

Cornwall Youth Brass Ensemble - remote recording of 'Tube Ride'!

Cornwall Youth Brass Ensemble got together remotely during Lockdown to create a performance of "Tube Ride" by ex-member French Horn player, Tom FIndlay, who is now studying at the Royal College Of Music. Each part was recorded individually and added to the mix to create the final piece. CYBE usually meets once a month but will continue to work remotely for now. Players are at least grade 6 standard. If any orchestral brass players are interested in joining CYBE, there are positions available for Trumpet and Trombones. Please contact smunns@cornwallmusicservicetrust.org with your enquiry.

We are very grateful to David Jones for compiling and editing the video, below.

Cornwall Youth Wind Orchestra Virtual Orchestra takes off!

Cornwall Youth Wind Orchestra Virtual Orchestra takes off!

The Cornwall Youth Wind Orchestra were unable to complete their year of preparation and perform what was gearing up to be a super concert series in Carnglaze Caverns at Easter. During lockdown, the musicians have been working remotely to produce an arrangement of Rondino Pathetique by Gareth Churcher. This is the result and the start of several pieces which will be performed in this way.

If you or someone you know would like to be part of this friendly ensemble please see our recent post about online application and audition here.

Virtually Living On A Prayer!

Virtually Living On A Prayer!

Before lockdown, pupils of Falmouth and Helston ‘Next Steps’ were working hard to perform in their Summer concerts.

Unfortunately, the concerts were postponed, so we did the next best thing and recorded a virtual version for you to hear.

We hope you enjoy it...
